The Soukis
The Soukis are the peaceful people of the marshlands. They take refuge from the polluted remnants of Planet Earth on their artificial island, where they tend to every bit of fauna and flora in hopes of restoring the world’s long lost nature.
The Soukis don’t exactly know what that means; they did not exist when our planet was healthy.
They do understand, however, the joy of watching things grow and take root. So they spend their days tending to the trees and fields, cleaning creeks and purifying the soil.
They live in tidy homes that don’t always differ outside from inside, and welcome the change in weather.
The Soukis are for the most time always busy; be it tending to their island or enjoying each other’s company. They adore music and dance and festivities, they adore craft and experimentation, and above all sharing stories of myth and legend about the world they do not understand, but deeply love.
A story in the making
The Soukis are a personal project born out of my interest for both art and architecture. These characters and their world stand in the middle ground of fantasy and reality, and deal with topics like climate-change anxiety and the love for nature we can all relate with. They’re my way of coping with the environmental crisis we are witnessing every day, while still acknowledging that in spite of it all, being human - creative, emotional, immensely resourceful - is for the most part, very beautiful.
These little creatures are to me very human in their passions and interests, but unlike us, they are not easily swayed by any discourse of hate or prejudice, they do not invest their skill in war or weaponry, nor to they resort to selfishness to survive.
They are simply aware that by taking care of each other and the world around them, they meet their purpose: to leave the world better than how they found it.
